A new scam that we have been warned about is the US Treasury scam. You may receive notification that the government shorted you on your tax return and you must complete a form to receive the money that is still "owed" to you. The amount can range from $60 to $180 dollars usually. Of course you have to give them all your information such as account number, social security number, and so forth. They also use some of the IRS's actual web pages to help sell the scam. Anytime you receive an email wanting personal information such as an account number or social security number, it should throw up a red flag and you should close out and delete that email. To our knowledge, we haven't had any members fall for this scam yet. |
